This weeks topic of conversation: What is the biggest challenge you face socially?
After I had my daughter it took a little while before I started going out socially again, and when I did I found I was very anxious and had one or two quite bad panic attacks. It put me off doing a lot of things for a long time.
I've since seen a couple of therapists and I'm doing much better with it now, but I still have the odd occasion when I feel like I might have some kind of relapse. Enclosed places, jammed packed with people are always the worst situations for me.
With the help of some amazing friends and my lovely husband though, I've managed to claw my way back to some normality, and I know they're there for me if I feel like I'm having a bit of a wobble. I really can't thank them enough for helping me through.
Have you any worries or challenges you face when going out and about?

Glad you've mostly gotten over it! It's great that you have people to help you through. I'm just really bad at communicating with people - I'm very socially awkward, it can be very annoying.
ReplyDeleteWithout my friends to help me I'm not sure I'd have made it through as far as I have.
DeleteIt's a horrible feeling when your mind is being rational but you're body is thinking otherwise.
I think most people have some sort of social anxiety. And we all deal with it differently. It's great that you've managed to overcome everything with the help of your friends :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebeccah. I still have anxiety moments but I've much better at coping with them now. They key is to not let it win.
DeleteI'm that way, too. Isn't it so suffocating and frustrating?! Ugh! And I end up appearing snobby when I really feel like I'm going to throw up. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat job on getting to a place where it's manageable. Keep up the awesome work, Heather!
